Rare is all over the
Xbox scene already being the force behind the
Avatar system released to every
Xbox 360 and it looks like their involvement is getting deeper.
On the other hand, though, the cover
system certainly isn't particularly great in comparison to many others out there (coughGearsofWarcough) A simple tap of the A button on the
Xbox controller will slam your cell - shaded
avatar into whatever wall or chest - high piece of cover happens to be in the immediate vicinity, while another tap of A while pushing the analogue stick in any direction will disengage you from cover — Simples.
Rare has been one of the busiest developers this generation, they developed the
Xbox Live
Avatar system from the ground up, put out multiple platinum games like Viva Pinata 1 and 2, Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts, Perfect Dark Zero, Kameo Elements Of Power and remastered Banjo Kazooie, Perfect Dark 64 and Banjo Tooie for HD on
Xbox Live Arcade.
While
Xbox live might cost money, it has always been a vastly superior service to the PlayStation Network, offering up cross game chat,
avatars and a party
system that makes it easy to game with friends.
Microsoft's new
Xbox Live
Avatar system has been leaked in a new video ahead of a proper reveal.
The
system will also show you who your opponent is, using their
Xbox Live
avatar as representation.
Microsoft's
Xbox employees already have access to the new
avatar system, and the
Xbox Alpha group of testers will get access first before they're broadly available next month.
Microsoft is clearly all - in on Mixed Reality, and picking up AltspaceVR is an interesting move, particularly when you consider Microsoft's work with
Xbox's updated
Avatar system (which looks far better than AltspaceVR's
avatars... and is also based on Unity3D.)
