programmes have been developed and evaluated, 23, 24 most of this evidence is related to two

years.5 Although
effective comprehensive treatment
programmes have been identified, 6 — 8 provision of these interventions requires significant resource output.9, 10 Given that a majority of individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders reside in low - resource settings, the scale up of such resource - intensive
programmes is challenging.
The Family Links Nurturing Programme49 (FLNP) has much in common with Incredible
Years and the group - based component of Triple P and, like these

programmes for dealing with behavioural difficulties, including the Incredible
Years (IY) parent
programmes.
Effective techniques exist for helping parents to get their children to read.36 One parent - child reading
programme with 5
year olds reduced the proportion of children in the «very poor» category of reading from 26 % to 14 %.36 Teachers can be taught techniques to reduce disruptive behaviour in the classroom.
There are
programmes that can help support parents, infants and young children during the critical early
years such as Nurse Family Partnership49, 50 and Triple P Positive Parenting Programme.51 These
programmes, where found to be
effective, have been associated with cost - savings.50 — 53 Importantly, such
programmes require targeted application in the most deprived areas, and this should be a priority for those involved in violence prevention.
Therefore, it remains possible that a universal early parenting
programme coupled with an
effective targeted family support
programme for toddlers still at risk at age 2 — 3
years could substantially add to the population benefit of the targeted
programme alone, by increasing community reach and uptake of the targeted intervention when needed.

years of the project and recognition of the need for the continuation of the various services which are clearly meeting a need in the area, and the extension of those
programme elements which are demonstrated as being most

programme in Wales, while finding the intervention to be cost -
effective for all 3 — 5 -
year - old children at risk of conduct disorder, suggested that the intervention would be most cost -
effective for children with the highest risk of developing conduct disorder (Edwards et al., 2007).
