Yielders with Capital Appreciation Potential: Above - average dividend yields and potential growth
In buying stocks I try to maintain a balance between high yielders (such as most REITS) and low
yielders with above average dividend growth rates (stock like SBUX, DAL).
For now I aim to find a balance between low and high
yielders with an average of 3.5 %.
My current YOC is 3.97 % — meaning that I am not only on track for this goal but also that my portfolio has some more room for low
yielders with above average dividend growth rates.
For instance, a 3 %
yielder with 5 % growth would get the same grade (an 8) as a 5 %
yielder with 3 % growth.
The stock is a 3 %
yielder with extremely low beta.
Not exact matches
Two other important characteristics of the index are more sector diversification and less value bias compared
with the high dividend
yielders.

yielder's excess to cover the middle years while waiting for the fast grower to take over.
The mini-portfolio of high
yielders starts
with the Bank of Nova Scotia (BNS), CIBC (CM), and National Bank (NA).
It was a 9 percent
yielder,
with a 7 percent growth rate selling for 60 percent of the market multiple.
Over time, a smaller
yielder that grows its payout robustly will overtake a current high
yielder that lets its dividend languish or only polishes it
with fractional hikes.
I used those high
yielders to help get my account off and running
with no intent of holding them long term.
I know you (& everyone) want to be officially FI as soon as possible, and it's easier to get there
with 3 % -4 %
yielders, but I think it's very smart to mix in high dividend - growth stocks as well even if the current yield is unsatisfying.
With a good high -
yielder, you get steady dividends, the potential for price appreciation, and protection against inflation.
