But if you were to use a Yarn Yoshi amiibo in the game then instead of unlocking a costume you'll summon a partner Yoshi who will copy your moves.

One of the big features of Yoshi's Woolly World on Wii U was that you could scan in your amiibo to unlock various costumes themed after the character whose amiibo you scanned.

In Yoshi's Woolly World the Splatoon Inkling re-colours in the Wii U version unlocked the same costumes as the original trio — this has been altered to have 3 unique designs for the re-colours, and the Squid Sisters are now supported too.

Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World, the 3DS port of the game, brings back this feature and expands upon it — all costumes from the Wii U version remain, however some have been tweaked and a new batch have been added for amiibo that weren't released at the time.

One of my favourite features in in the game is the ability to unlock unique costumes (well, wool patterns) for Yoshi by scanning amiibo figures on the Wii U GamePad at any time.
