Following his first one - man exhibition at the Nigel Greenwood Gallery in London in 1980, he rapidly established an international reputation exhibiting world - wide in many of the major survey shows of the decade, such as Zeitgeist, Berlin 1982 and Avant - garde in the eighties, Los Angeles 1987.
His work has been presented in significant survey exhibitions, including documenta 6 and 7, Kassel (1977, 1982); Zeitgeist, Martin - Gropius - Bau, Berlin (1982); A New Spirit of Painting, Royal Academy of Arts, London (1981); Information, Museum of Modern Art, New York (1970); Op Losse Schroeven, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam (1969) and When Attitudes Become Form, Kunsthalle Bern (1969).
The show's title originates from Hirschdenkmäler (Stag Monuments), the environment Beuys created for the legendary 1982 Berlin exhibition Zeitgeist, co-curated by Christos M. Joachimides and Rosenthal himself.
At that date, he had already participated in the groundbreaking exhibitions of his time: «Western Art» in Cologne (1981), «A New Spirit in Painting» in London (1981), and «Zeitgeist» (1982) in Berlin.
Fetting participated in numerous influential exhibitions, including: Zeitgeist (1982) at the Martin - Gropius - Bau Berlin; Von hier aus Zwei neue deutsche Kunst in Düsseldorf, Messe Düsseldorf, (1984), An International Survey of Recent Painting and Sculpture at the MoMA, New York, (1988); Refigured Painting — The German Image 1960 — 1988 at the Guggenheim Museum, New York (1989); and Portrait Now, National Portrait Gallery London, UK (1993).
