At a time when head teachers across England and Wales are crying out for sufficient funds to run their schools, provide
pupils with a broad and balanced curriculum and retain teachers and support staff, the Government is proposing to lavish scarce education funding on a policy which all the evidence confirms will undermine the high standards of education that comprehensive schools have been
able to achieve in the decades since selective education was ended in most parts of the country.
With robust data, including accurate assessments of current
pupil performance, realistic end of year projections and targets (as agreed
at the start of the year), the data across the academies will be comparable, and relevant stakeholders will be
able to make meaningful inferences from the information presented.
As time goes on, one of the exciting things we will be
able to do is look
at how individual
pupils» writing develops over time.
However, to move beyond such minimum delivery, and to prepare
pupils in Key Stage 3 for the rigours of studying computing
at GCSE and beyond, you won't be
able to get away from some proper text - based programming.
Unless your
pupils make a sound start
at the appropriate literacy levels, they will not be
able to enjoy and benefit from their time
at school.
