Miscarriage or spontaneous
abortion is the natural or accidental termination
of a
pregnancy at a
stage where the embryo or the fetus is incapable
of surviving, generally defined
at a gestation
of prior to 20 weeks.
For Dr. Daniel Grossman, a professor
of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences
at the University
of California
at San Francisco and director
of Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health, if lawmakers want to curb
abortion at a later
stage, they should make it easier for women to access care in the early
stages of the
pregnancy.
