of ignoring the fact that Jesus was part
of a marginalized group under empire and also a refugee from a batshit crazy tyrant (Matthew 2).
A pleasingly quiet, small - scaled drama
about love between
strangers and siblings, solidarity between lonely Angelenos and the transformative power
of kindness, Anything has much to recommend it.
There are big questions
about homesickness and how one fits in to a new world — the answer to both seems to be «through the
kindness of strangers» — but also a romance that's as sweeping as it is small - scale.
The film is
about the defense
of wives, the triumph
of love, the importance
of trust, and the
kindness of strangers.
So when I read this article
about ladies in Baltimore losing their homes because they didn't do enough scrutiny
of the mortgage documents, partly because they were deceived by people who were seemingly experts, who said that they would be able to refinance the rate when the reset date hit, I thought
about relying on the
kindness of strangers again.
You're right, travel writers focus on the
kindness of strangers and rarely write
about the ones that pass them by in a hurry.
A friend pulled me from the brambles so that I wouldn't tumble down the scree immediately below; I was able to pull myself from the sand and slowly restore my own dignity; the air did rush back into my lungs after
about thirty seconds, and a couple
strangers offered their shoulders and
kindness as I steadied myself before a careful descent along the edge
of the trail.
