Hello, I have started the 2 week test this morning and I have a couple questions
about the MAF App.
Should I even bother with worrying
about MAF or changing anything in the interim, or are there simple things I could do that can improve things that won't create short term issues?
After reading
about the MAF 180 method, it made sense to me.
Not exact matches
I am also a fitness instructor so do have
about 2 - 4 workouts (mostly weights) each week at the gym that my HR is well over my 138
MAF and even while I cycle (something I changed to this fall to help with the stress on my adrenals from running) takes me over that effort when I am not working very hard.
I think
about many solutions: — Increasing my aerobic volume — Adjusting my
MAF HR to 180 — my age + 5 (I'm 29 yo so it would be 156 instead of 151 bpm) * according to the 180 formula I can add 5 if I've been running for at least two years without injury and have made progress in competition * in my case this is almost true except that it's been only 1 + year — Performing a lab test to discover my true
MAF HR — Adding some more intensity periods, without fearing
about the volume (but always listening to my body and ensuring proper rest between workouts)
The
MAF test is NOT
about max heart rate.
I have also been doing runs (3 - 6 miles)
about 3 times a week under
MAF (in addition to 2 circuit sessions).
Also, when you talk being
about 20 % anaerobic / 80 % aerobic, are you talking
about percentage of time over / below
MAF while running?
You may consider doing a longer warm up, perhaps 30 min, where you keep your HR under
about 124, then enter into a test phase where you increase your pace up to your upper
MAF HR of 134.
i am starting 3 months of aerobic training spending
about 6 hrs a week riding my bike at my
MAF HR.
Here is basically the
MAF HR you are talking
about (which i totally agree with).
We're talking
about sets of 100 + reps.. This is even if the overall power output is much less than what you'd expect for the heart rate to increase beyond the
MAF HR.
I understand that
MAF means the max of aerobic engine — just when is
about to start the anaerobic engine.
There have been many online running coaches who advocate doing some strides (eg: 6 x 20s strides at
about a mile pace) after a easy (
MAF) run Is this advisable?
I looked into
MAF a bit further and found out
about the difference between slow & fast twitch muscles, what they use for energy and which is best suited for which type of activity.
So
about four months ago, I restarted
MAF training on elliptical and exercise bike, minus 5 bpm, combined with a weightlifting rehab program centered largely on posterior chain movements such as Romanian deadlifts, single leg deadlifts, glute bridges, etc (the knee has finally been showing steady improvement since I began).
MAF training is NOT — let me reiterate: NOT —
about perceived effort.
Remember,
MAF training is all
about remaining at a point where you aren't producing (let alone accumulating) any lactate in your bloodstream.
I try vigilantly to try to stay within the
MAF range I had calculated; but I usually spend
about slightly less than a quarter of my workout time out of the zone, even with my best efforts (too high AND too low).
I had been prior to the test training using the
MAF method for
about 3 weeks, after having cheated for a couple of weeks with a
MAF HR higher than the formula's 127 bpm (in my case).
On the first day I was also running for
about 1 hour with
MAF pace.
Hi Ivan, I started following the guidelines dramatically cutting carbs, eating 8 to 10 servings of veggies / fruit a day and not caring so much
about fats (only the good ones though) and training exclusively aerobically at or under my
MAF.
I'm a little confused — I am just
about to start the 2 week test so have read on this site the list of «YES» foods and the list of «NO» foods — legumes feature on the «NO» list here but on the «YES» list on the
MAF App — please could you clarify whether they are a «YES» or a «NO» food?
I have been folllowing the
Maf training heart rate for
about one month using Dan John method of push, pull, squat and farmers walk.
I'm running / swimming (in the
MAF zone) 6 times a week for
about 6 to 7h total of exercise.
I first tried to train near my
MAF heart rate (140 = 180-30-10), aiming for
about 135.
I've been measuring my heart rate to see what it's like throughout the day and it's unremarkable except that when I take a shower my heart rate reaches
about 160 for 5 - 10 minutes (
MAF HR 140).
And on top of that, I run slowly at my
MAF heart rate for
about an hour.

I spent
about 300 bucks on plugs, wires, cap an rotor, ignition coil, fuel filter, air filter, vacuum lines and some cleaning sprays (
maf cleaner and tb cleaner).
So just when i was ready to give in and buy a new TB and
MAF sensor i got a text from a friend who i questioned
about my issue.
I love the tech, he'd take me into the garage or lot, show me what was wrong, explain things thoroughly, and be very candid
about the state of some vw parts at the time (such as the MKIV
MAF being on revision «R» in late 2001 after the model was only introduced in «99.5) which greatly earned my trust in him and his ability to work «for me and my car» not just «for the dealer, on my car»... I probably should have been able to get my car classified as a lemon, but his service manager didn't even stand behind what he said.
The
MAF is in the intake tube
about 2 feet before the throttle body.
I don't know
about cars, but turbo working, fuel trim adjusting for lean burn, good
MAF... Suggests the turbo is firing up, but somehow not resulting in engine power.
So far so good with the
MAF cleaning, haven't had the codes pop up for
about 850mi post cleaning and the
MAF housing's interior and the laminar air screen were definitely dirty.
MAF has received a gift of $ 1 million from the Golden Retriever Foundation for cancer research, with an emphasis on hemangiosarcoma and lymphoma — the same two cancers that we in Aussies most need to worry
about.
