Before I say anything nice
about Delta
SkyMiles, I must always first note how much I can't stand the Delta
SkyMiles loyalty program.
Add in my Delta Business Platinum American Express card, which earns 1.4
Skymiles per dollar at the $ 25,000 and $ 50,000 spend levels, and that accounts for just
about all of my manufactured spend budget (although I can't resist maintaining a 50,000 Club Carlson point balance, good for two free nights at any Club Carlson property in the world).

about the Mileage Plan program that BusinessElite redemptions on Delta to Europe cost just 90,000 Mileage Plan miles, while the same ticket would cost 100,000

Since late Tuesday evening, Flyertalk «s been imploding, the blogosphere «s been moaning and just
about everyone's been acting like Delta's announced changes to
SkyMiles herald the end of frequent flyer programs as we know it.
These complaints are precisely the reasons why I'm actually optimistic
about the changes coming to
SkyMiles.
Take my Platinum Delta
Skymiles American Express card: at the $ 25,000 annual spend level, it earns 35,000
Skymiles, or 1.4
Skymiles per dollar, conservatively worth
about 2.24 cents (valued at 1.6 cents each) per dollar.
However, my 431 Delta
Skymiles did recently post to my account, which at 2 cents each is
about a 7 % rebate against the $ 122.50 I spent for two nights.
The reason is that while I value the 5 bonus Hilton HHonors points per dollar at
about 2 cents, and I value one United MileagePlus or Delta Skymile at
about 2 cents, I earn
Skymiles through flying domestically on Delta and partner flights, and can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points to United, while earning Hilton HHonors points will become much harder after the changes to the earning structure of their co-branded American Express credit cards go into effect in May.
If you are not consistently getting over 1 cent /
skymile then you have to think
about it.
Cynthia currently has
about 53,000 Delta
SkyMiles, 43,000 Travel Miles on the Barclaycard Arrival, 54,000 Ultimate Rewards points from Chase Ink and is working towards her sign - up bonus on a Starwood Preferred Group American Express presently.
