While this isn't the reincarnation of
Snake Eater most fans have been hoping for, and the gameplay (if you can call it that) doesn't seem to be anything to write home
about, the videos do provide a nice look at the new cinematics of the beloved PlayStation 2 - classic.
Throughout
Snake Eater you have characters talking
about the practicalities of war — how to hold your gun right, how to stay alive in the wild, and how not to draw attention to yourself — but somehow the developers didn't think freezing your tits off while riding your motorbike in Russia ran counter to those ideas.
How
about here: Metal Gear Solid 3:
Snake Eater.
But in spite of these incredibly high highs, there's one thing
about the Metal Gear Solid series» narrative and storytelling that can not be disputed - that there's before
Snake Eater, and there's after
Snake Eater.
Then again, he said the same thing
about Metal Gear Solid 3:
Snake Eater and we all know how that ended up.
On Nintendo Everything we get more news
about Metal Gear Solid:
Snake Eater for the Nintendo 3DS — Hideo Kojima speaks
about the much anticipated game for the new system.
This is to say nothing
about the fact that his character arc was actually finished by the end of
Snake Eater, but Kojima decided to push it even further effectively meaning Big Boss» arc concluded, was rendered incomplete by Portable Ops and Peace Walker, and then ended incomplete with The Phantom Pain.
(as a ps: in my thoughts above i am trying only to think
about these games as compared to their era appropriate counterparts, but when talking
about MGS vs. Bond as well as the spy experience in video games I think
Snake Eater deserves a mention.
