It seems where ever I look, I see a blog post
about credit inquiries saying «you'll get dinged» or my personal favorite credit myth «checking your own credit score hurts you».
First let's talk
about credit inquiries.
Before we discuss what you need to know
about credit inquiries, let's take a quick look at how your score is calculated.
The second piece of information a credit report provides is
about credit inquiries by creditors, whether soft (when you get pre-approved for a line of credit) or hard (when you apply for a line of credit and the creditor pulls your credit report).
Having said all these, if you still want to dispute hard inquiries in your credit report, you can achieve this by making an official written letter to the institution involved notifying
them about the credit inquiry from their organisation which you did not authorise which appeared in your credit report.

So if you have any opportunity to contact the lender and ask
about the type of the
credit inquiry they make, do so.

Not only does closing the card do nothing to remove either the
inquiry or new account that left your score lower, closing it won't prevent the card's very short
credit history from unfavorably impacting the scoring calculations — average account age, oldest and newest account age, for example — that make up the length of
credit history scoring category (
about 15 percent of your score).
