I don't personally care
much about the glaciers but I want fuel for my car and electricity to come out of the wall socket.
By Steve Everly The story behind the IPCC director's involvement in winning huge grants to study the impacts of a debunked
claim about glaciers melting in the Himalayas had another layer added today when the Times Online (U.K.) reported that he knew about the bogus claim before announcing his latest award to study it.
«Lost amid the news coverage of Copenhagen and Climategate was the assertion that one of the more attention - grabbing statements [
about glaciers in the Himalayas] of the IPCC AR4 was flat - out wrong» - Houston Chronicle containing other links:
[Response: You'll find pointless
quibbling about the glacier stuff from skeptics, including plenty who question the reality of the warming, not just its cause.
«There is a pattern» of stuff that is at least irksome to Joe Sixpack even though he doesn't
care about glaciers, the Arctic ocean, etc..
And some of those rocks, left behind by long - ago glaciers, also contain
clues about the glaciers from whence they came.
A number of facts have been scientifically
proven about the glacier mummy, known as «the Iceman» or «Ötzi,» found in the Ötztal Alps (South Tyrol) in 1991.
You hear things all of the time about how the glaciers are melting, global warming, polar bears floating away on icebergs — and all the other
buzzwords about glaciers — but I never really took the time to look up the definition of a glacier.
«Instead of the kids
reading about a glacier and how a glacier is formed and why the color of the ice on the glacier is different, we actually visited the glacier.
Instead of a teacher in front of a classroom we had a guide giving us a
lecture about glaciers,» Theresa Stevens said.
Chris Dudley (21, 40)-- Based on some limited
knowledge about glaciers and ice sheets, I am of the fairly firm opinion that nothing above 300 ppm CO2e preserves a «safe» climate, in the long run.
The official, Jean - Pascal van Ypersele, a vice chairman of the climate change panel, said that a glaciologist, Georg Kaser at the University of Innsbruck, in Austria, had sought to correct the
information about the glaciers before it was published by the panel but that the correction came too late and never reached the people who could fix the statement.
Usually there's nothing
extraordinary about a glacier calving, said glaciologist Ted Scambos of the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) in Boulder, Colorado.
There is nothing in the Working Group I report that supports the Working Group II claims about the disappearance of Himalayan glaciers by 2035; or to support the other
assertion about the glaciers declining from 500,000 to 100,000 km2 by the year 2035.
The University of Earth: Urgent Action Series: COP 21 Paris 2015: Dr. Georg Kaser — Mountain Glaciers This video sees Pam Pearson and Dr. Georg
Kaser about glaciers and their slow decline over many years.
Endless
stories about glaciers melting, polar bears, ice sheets in Greenland and Antarctica and sea ice form the view that there is virtually no ice left on the surface of the planet.
It wasn't «denier's at the IPCC who made too much of the Hockey Stick graph, or who inserted the claims
about glacier losses and African rain and crop yield.
How dare they
talk about glaciers in the 1850's (um, see Skeptical Science), or that «impacts claimed by the IPCC to be likely in the distant future are claimed to be already evident.»
The mistaken
claim about the glaciers — that they could disappear by 2035 — «never really came to my attention» before the end of last year, Dr Pachauri maintains, though the opportunities for it to have done so were numerous.
IPCC chair Rajendra Pachauri even reportedly referred to a November Indian government report that questioned the IPCC's
findings about the glaciers» vulnerability as «voodoo science.»

Q: There is a view which feels that you knew
about the glacier melting and of your claims at IPCC melting away before Copenhagen.
