Tony is pretty much an everyman character going
about his daily business when he happens to see what he sees, which leads to one of Argento's more memorable set pieces as Tony is trapped between the two
glass doors of the
art gallery, unable to help the victim inside who is bleeding on the floor and unable to escape outside to fetch help, and his and Julia's situation and relationship is played out in a very natural way, the scenes in their apartment with just the two of them interacting being as integral to the plot as the more violent scenes.
It's a warm, teasing relationship — Varda really, really wants JR to take off his dark
glasses and reveal himself — animated by their mutual affection, their curiosity
about people, and their enthusiasm for their
art, and captured gloriously in this glorious film.

about the rich associations inherent to this genre.
Stunningly integrated paintings, sculpture, drawings, and decorative
arts — ancient
glass and bronzes, Italian maiolica, nautilus cups, ostrich egg ewers, mounted ivories, pottery, silver, ceramics, and extraordinary porcelain — tell stories
about shared human experiences, revealing how people lived their everyday lives, how they related to the natural world, how they yearned to believe in something greater than themselves.
What also interested me
about the show was its attempt to historicise this commercial vein of
art, to stick it on a pin and display it in a
glass case, so to speak.
