«We've got to end this rampant
dishonesty about graduation rates,» Kati Haycock, the director of the Education Trust, the Washington - based research and advocacy group that put together the report, said in a statement.
While we're
optimistic about the graduation rate, our findings in Fall 2015 — as part of a secondary analysis of the Civil Rights Data Collection 2011 - 12 — showed that while the enrollment of students with disabilities may be going up in charter schools, disciplinary actions such as suspension and expulsion continue to disproportionately impact these students.
Less noticed but no less important is the fact that more than 19 governors specifically talked
about graduation rates in their state - of - the - state speeches.
The positive
news about graduation rates was coupled with continued upward trends in scores on the state's High School Proficiency Assessments (HSPA), the required exit exam in language arts and math given to all juniors.
