He did not worry
about heresy in order to protect his own power or prestige.
For example, he
talks about the heresies of «justification by faith alone» (p. 237), annihilationism, hyper - preterism (p. 242), Openness of God, and Religious Inclusivism (p. 281).
I am not sugesting that everyone who
worries about heresies in the church is a control freak, but there is (IMHO) an element of control at play in the unofficial «thought police» which many churches have.
I use differenttypes of literature to convey the thoughts... limericks, rhyming, etc etc.another issue is that Peter is addressing from different points... 1st peter is
about heresies from outside church coming in..
And similarly to what we have
seen about heresy, the problem is not the bad theology the person is teaching (though that is a problem), but rather the divisive and factious attitude of the person that Paul is most concerned about.
It is wrong to say that heresy and heretics do n`t exist, because the Bible clearly
talks about heresy, heresies, heretics, false teachers, false teachings etc..
Church leaders love to warn
us about heresy.
