Hi AnnMarie, I'm writing because I am again confused... I'm working hard at cleaning up my
diet (going off low / non-fat and other non-foods), then I come across this info
about the Paleo
diet stating, like many others, that saturated fats and dairy are BAD for us...» are low in the foods and nutrients (refined sugars and grains, saturated and trans fats,
salt,
high - glycemic carbohydrates, and processed foods) that frequently may cause weight gain, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and numerous other health problems»..
It is working to reach a consensus with the food industry over the harmful effects of a
high salt diet, and bring
about a reduction in the amount of
salt in processed foods as well as
salt added to cooking, and the table.
So, what better symbols than «traffic lights» to warn us
about high levels
salt, sugar or fat, in processed food, or to reassure us that levels are low and that our shopping choices are contributing to a healthy
diet.
Most of the warnings we hear
about reducing the amount of
salt in our
diets have to do with reducing the risks related to
high blood pressure.
With so much media attention
about low
salt diets for
high blood pressure, may people believe everyone should restrict their sodium intake.
