about holiday baking with my grandma.
The first time I experienced this ravishing taste sensation was when I made Alice Medrich's fresh gingerbread with milk chocolate chunks from her book

It's not quite time to start singing decking the halls and singing carols (my children are greatly relieved about that second part at least when it comes to their mother singing), but it is time to start thinking
about holiday baking.

The start of the Passover
holiday was then, when the Jews came out of Egypt, as they had to
bake bread which turned into matza and other practices which began exactly at that time, and continued each year thereafter, with the parents telling their children
about when they came out of Egypt.
Think
about why that has to be illogical: Someone wrote that something else happened hundreds of years ago, and that the practice of
baking and eating matza started then, and how to keep the
holiday of Passover, and why.
But I think what I love best
about the
holidays is I get to
bake for me, for fun and for the sheer joy of it.
When thinking
about all the cooking and
baking you're inevitably going to do over the
holidays, it might seem pretty daunting — so why not make it something to look forward to instead?

There is just something

baking for others that makes people feel good to give.

baking aisle shelf that is actually there year - round.
I'm getting very excited
about all the
holiday baking I have planned!
I made several batches last year when this was first posted and have made
about 6 batches in the last week for
holiday parties and gifts using both a # 24 and # 30 scoop (
baking about 18 minutes).
One of my favorite things
about having a food blog through the
holidays: I have a great excuse to produce and share
baked goods for at least a solid month.
I got sick and found I could not eat any grain (or legumes or dairy or... well those were the main ones ruining
baking) and we were having a crisis

We used to do all sorts of egg
bakes for
holiday breakfasts, but since we can't have eggs due to food allergies, this is an excellent substitution that no one will be complaining
about!
As I wrote in an article
about Christmas cookies for Edible Seattle magazine last year, once my maternal grandparents had frozen an adequate amount of lefse for the
holidays and cleaned away any molecules of errant flour that had crept beyond the plastic sheets, they could relax (a bit at least) and begin
baking cookies.

I was just talking with a friend
about trying to find a good Gingerbread recipe to try for the
holidays:) Just out of curiosity is it possible to
bake these cookies into large flat squares and use them to make gingerbread houses?
mere moments before reading this i got was thinking
about the large marshmallows i had in the pantry which made me think of
baking but are too big for my famous cookies which made me think of rice crispy treats which made me think of salty sweet which reminded me of the bacon bark i made over the

holiday recipes I'll sneak in at other times of the year, there's something rather special
about having these brownies (well, technically the gluten - free version that I have to make these days, but which, I'm happy to report still tastes markedly similar), sweet and bursting with minty flavour, to look forward to with that same childlike anticipation each year - even if I'm the one
