I sometimes think
about kids growing up now and how they are constantly consumed by so much — youtube, nextflix etc and similarly what it was like for those who grew up in a time where none of that existed.
I try to think
about my kids growing up and having kids.
I'm more concerned
about kids growing up without any father than kids growing up with two loving fathers.

about the ultimate in Christian travel — the Holy Land tour.

It was easy for me, then, to become cynical
about the faith that I was raised in, to punch the holes into the theology of the people I
grew up with and spot the gaps in the preaching and methods, and point a finger of blame when «they» got it wrong, to separate myself from the culture and, like most
kids raised by immigrant parents (because, in a way, my parents were like immigrants to this strange new land of Christianity), I took for granted my life in the new Kingdom, completely unable to imagine a life without freedom, without joy, without Jesus.
I know that the preacher's wife in my church
growing up was very constrained; she didn't feel free to express any negative opinions at all, even just to talk
about her
kids being a handful, because the pastor's family is supposed to be the «example».
In the denomination I
grew up in as a
kid, people had a certain way of talking
about people they couldn't stand to be around.
But, as so often happens to
kids who
grew up in church, when I reached young adulthood, I started to question a lot of what I was taught
about faith and life and ever since then, doubt has been an ongoing presence in my life.

about writing an updated version with more guidelines and tips that we've picked
up as our crew has

Yes, they contribute to school spirit, but mostly they're
about giving
kids an opportunity to learn what it means to be on a team, to work hard for a goal, to accept roles and to
grow as a person through the inevitable
ups and downs of a season.
