about 4 lb 12 oz.

One mom's story
about her struggles
with her post-baby body, even after
losing more than her pregnancy

With the 1st 2, I
lost all the
weight plus
about 5 lbs by 8 months post partum, approximately when I weaned.
They're
losing weight and you're all kind of obsessed
about that initial birth
weight and then so to hear like ones to you, like all my babies were born in a hospital, so once I left the hospital, it's kind of like, well, they weighed less now and I really did have that 10 % in my head a lot because I didn't want to have to do formula, and so I just felt like it was, this weird challenge
with my body like, can my body create enough colostrum to be able to support this, and what's going to happen over the next couple of weeks, you know, they going to tell me if this first pediatrician appointment that I've got a supplement.
So what is significant
about losing 10 % or more of baby's birth
weight when evaluating the breastfeeding relationship
with mom?
So you don't have as much flexibility
with how much
weight they can
lose and I know that they had to be life over 4.5 pounds before they would leave the hospital, and they were, I mean, I can't remember exact numbers because it's
about two and a half years ago now, but I do remember them being big enough so that they could leave the hospital but then like I said, they need to go see the pediatrician like right away, I think it was like the next day.
And I don't think that was my own experience
with my three nursing babies (for instance, I
lost all my
weight right away
with my second baby (& was at the lowest
weight (
about 120 lbs), and ovulation stayed away the longest
with that baby).
But I just wanted to talk
with you
about this from the other side of
losing the baby
weight.
It's a teaching hospital too which I don't think is a bad thing — but that may have something to do
with the many, many stories
about breastfed babies discharged after having
lost 10 % + of their body
weight but
with no advice to the parents
about how to monitor.
I vowed that instead of hating on my postpartum body and worrying why I couldn't
lose weight and killing myself
with exercise, this time I would not stress out
about my body.
OK, so stressing out
about our postpartum body and filling our mind
with negative body - talk is definitely not the answer to
losing the baby
weight.
The foundation measures years of potential life
lost before age 75; quality of life examines physical, mental and overall health, as well as the percentage of babies born
with birth
weights under
about 5.5 pounds.
One partner in each couple had
lost 30 or more pounds in less than two years,
with an average
weight loss of
about 60 pounds.

I rarely start the discussion
with patients
about losing weight but rather talk
