Here is what I knew
about Dragon Ball FighterZ before I played it at Bandai Namco's Paris expo last month: 1) developer Arc System Works is the seasoned creator of painterly, 2D beatdowns responsible

Stu Levy has never been

manga to me — he's always been the «face» of the other stuff, all those little pet - projects and admittedly odd but flamboyant social projects he engages in
for reasons I won't dismiss but also won't try to fathom understanding (ie: not intended to target consumers like me, such as their recent America's Greatest Otaku reality show).
But with hindsight being 20/20, and more information coming out
about how much really goes into releasing
manga digitally, Jmanga was probably selling their
manga for too little.

I speculated the same thing
about Del Rey «helping» Kodansha in my article on this a while back, but my personal conclusion is that Kodansha has actually been publishing books in North America
for quite some time, including some
manga... I doubt they really need help, at least on the level of submitting things to Amazon.
It says a lot
about the problems they faced over their years as a
manga publisher and makes me more thankful than ever
for the great titles we did get from them, some I know we'd never have gotten from anyone else (Key to the Kingdom — I love it, but really?).
What amazes me is how the company is relying on the new store, with its wine and beer, to be a draw
for customers and yet is brags
about its large
manga selection in the YA section.
Many were optimistic
about the potential, though I think
for manga, the iPad isn't going to do much.
It'd be smartest
for Viz to release their
manga for all digital formats, sure, but releasing
manga for one format is at least a major step over the olden days when
manga publishers were completely freaked out
about any online
manga.
As
for the
manga adaptation, I think after at least a volume worth of chapters have gone by, we will be hearing an announcement from Kodansha
about it being licensed.
I have long proclaimed by love of Yokai, so I couldn't pass up this story
about a poll asking Japanese women to vote
for their favorite anime and
manga yokai.
I'm confident I'll enjoy it based on the anime (even though the Junjo
manga was not a winner
for me), and I always love a
manga about making
manga, so this series hits a double - chord.
But to hear
about why this is all so important, listen to an interview with Akira Maruyama, a Japanese expert on

for 250 pages, so the first thing he notes
about the new digital version is that at $ 25
for 48 issues, it's a much better deal.
