In the last flip I did, I added a pantry and it ran us
about $ 500, however, our kitchen was our selling feature for the house - cherry cabinets,
marble counters, high quality stainless appliances - so we wanted to make sure everything you could want was in there.
When I was researching
counter top choices I came across Edie from Life In Grace's post
about her Calcutta

i know you know your stuff but since we're in the midst of it i really wanted
marble counters but did a lot of research,
marble can stain and etch and i didn't want to worry

It appears the wood floors throughout the house were lightened, a brand new and nearly all white kitchen was installed with thickly veined slab
marble counter tops and a vintage range, and just
about every interior surface and architectural detail, including most window frames and the tile floors in the circular foyer and staircase, has been slathered in crisp white paint that we can all be certain will flabbergast a persnickety architectural preservationist or two.
Creating a beautiful room isn't
about copying the entire space, buying expensive appliances, or installing
marble counters on top of custom cabinetry.
At the last house we lived in, I had
marble countertops, and ALL my shirts grew little holes in them, right at
about where the
counter hit them when I leaned over.

We've had the kitchen now for
about a month, and besides learning how to care for
marble counters and tip - toeing around the painted cabinets for fear the paint will fall off if we sneeze the wrong way (read here for why I have developed this complex), besides all that, so far everything has held up beautifully and we wouldn't change a thing.
To update this kitchen, the homeowner and decorator Phoebe Howard installed hardwoods to match the rest of the house, swapped the dark black granite and tile for Carrara
marble counters and backsplash tiles, changed the cabinet hardware, put in a movable island, and painted just
about everything.
The house is
about a 1965ish with white
marble tile, dark green
counter tops and white cabinets.
We had our cultured
marble sink and
counter top painted professionally
about five years ago.
