Many people don't think
about marketing their
book until after it's published, but
if you can get the word out and gain a following prior to publication, the better your chances will be of people being excited for your
book's release.
If, as an author, your intent is to create a
book that will help you build towards a franchise of
books from which you could one day make a living, or to create a
book that takes your career to new heights or is a
marketing tool for your business, then think
about becoming an indie publisher and not an indie author.
As we all know
marketing is key to selling your
book and quite simply
if no one knows
about it no one will buy it.
This post is a bit of a departure from my usual stuff, but

For me, I think distribution and sales would be too difficult, particularly considering I want to reach the schools
market, and I already know how they work, which is hard for me to access (while not actually «self - publishing» before I was responsible for placing a
book about how to become a policewoman in Australia into educational outlets at secondary and tertiary levels and it was not only hard work but incredibly time and money consuming too, so
if someone can do that side for me at a reasonable cost, I'd always prefer it.)
Book marketing is just as simple and easy —
if you agree to create something that other people care
about, listen to their advice and develop a product they want to buy, build up a solid email list by giving away free content, and are always thinking
about how to connect with new people.
Of course, the bottom line (i.e., the difference between making sales and not making sales) is,
if lots of readers in your target
market want to read your
book but they never hear
about it, they can't decide to buy your
book — and the way they hear
about your
book is through
marketing.
If that's part of your
book marketing plan, then your Press Release must answer questions
about your
book.
However,
if your
marketing team already promotes your print
books online and is comfortable doing so, there is very little different
about marketing ebooks.
So, instead of talking
about your
book, you may have more success
if you put together lectures for other writers on
marketing, grammar or editing.
Also,
if you're serious
about marketing your
book, plan to send out at least 100 review copies to media professionals.

You are not assured success as a self - publisher, even
if you have a great story, spend money to make your
book meet all those standards that people talk
about, and can
market your ass off.

Marketing Club or
Book Marketing Tools — free to hit them all up but time - consuming OR it's 14.99 to send out an announcement to
about 35 - 40 free sites —
if you want to be on the «biggies» i.e., Freebooksy or Kindle Nation Daily and others, you have to contact and pay them directly — but that can also help.
If you Google the search term phrase «author
marketing plan» you will find hundreds of articles
about why
marketing is so important for authors, and why authors need to work with their publisher in selling their
books.
It's
