Boycott supporters have been
sharing information
about how Nestlé pushes baby
milk and encouraging family and friends to dump Nestlé products, at least for a week.
The other option that I'd heard
about (besides throwing it away, which would be sad) is informal
milk sharing.
La Leche League's position on
milk -
sharing discourages leaders from providing moms with information
about informal
milk -
sharing unless the mother specifically requests such information.
In fact, according to a paper Palmquist authored
about online
milk -
sharing, 96 % of recipients met their donors face - to - face before accepting donated
milk.
But it goes a little bit beyond that because the creators are actually registered nurses and International Board Certified Lactation Consultants and so some of the things that they've included in here, they are
about, for example, the importance of breast
milk, its affects on mother's health as well as, I love this section, I know I'm supposed to
share what I love
about it later.

Health Canada's advisory does not provide mothers with the information needed
about the safe peer - to - peer informed
sharing of
milk.
I hear my friends talk
about their abundant
milk supply and the feeling of bonding they
shared with their children.
Thanks for

Milk Code, I breastfed my son too, and will breastfeed future babies as well, with God's help.
My feeling
about milk in schools, as
shared by many TLT readers (judging from this morning's discussion on the Facebook page and in comments on the blog), is that
milk does have a place on lunch trays, but not to the exclusion of other beverages like water (which, as it turns out, is not so easy to get into cafeterias) and plant - based
milks for those who drink them.
If providing information
about informal
milk -
sharing is discouraged, and focus is placed on the risk of possible contamination, the more significant risk to a mother's
milk supply is potentially overlooked.
I believe it is time for child health advocates to stop telling moms what to do and instead, provide all the information that moms need in order to make their own informed choices
about milk -
sharing.

I didn't yet know
about peer - to - peer
milk sharing groups on Facebook, and we'd only just started to look into getting more donor
milk from the
milk bank, but we to found it was several dollars per ounce and therefore, prohibitively expensive.
