Credit
card issuers, lenders and
other financial institutions use a variety of different types of credit scores / credit scoring models and
other criteria when making a decision
about extending credit and the terms of the offer, so having a credit score in a certain range is not a guarantee for approval.
This year, ten percent fewer credit -
card holders received bad news
about their
cards in the form of
card issuers lowering their credit, charging higher interest rates, enacting late payment fees, canceling their
cards or
other events that would negatively effect one's relationship with their credit
card.
What I really like
about the announcement is that, when
other issuers are cutting back credit
card rewards and adding fees, PenFed chose to do the opposite to increase the benefits for cardholders.
And their
issuers, as any
other lenders, send monthly reports
about your
card usage to the three main credit bureaus — Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion.

A couple of years ago there was a great deal of of buzz surrounding the idea that credit
card issuers might be tracking what you were buying — and where you were buying it — as part of making decisions

To maximize your rewards, you first have to hear
about deals using social media, or via emails from your
card issuer, blogs and
other sources of information — and then remember which
card to use, when and where.
It is an important reminder that as much as we talk
about well - known
cards from the major
issuers — typically Chase, Citi, Barclay's, Capital One and American Express — there are plenty of
other banks and credit unions that offer
cards with appealing rewards.
Another way of thinking
about it is to argue: «Is chase worth more than all
other card issuers combined?»
