Last month there was a lot of talk / debate
about scanlations and their effects on the manga industry.
Not exact matches
Case in point: I recently wrote an article for Otaku USA
about Hana no Keiji, a glorious manga that was partially released in the US several years ago for which there are not even any
scanlations.
Takashi Yoshida, for instance, recently talked
about how shutting down
scanlation sites is an ineffective approach.
I could see them being concerned
about people ripping the pages and using them as a basis for
scanlations, but this is also a chance for people to put money where their mouth is.
The Sony E-reader is now on my list...... now to see if I can find out
about other readers, like the Kindle concerning manga
scanlations.
There also no news
about whether it will be a pay site, or if it will be streaming or download, but this is the BIG step Japanese publishers have needed to take battle the
scanlation aggregators.
