We strive to reduce the overpopulation of stray animals and euthanasia rates at our local
shelters by educating our community
about adoption, rescue, Spay and Neuter.
Recently, there was a pure bred puppy in a high kill
shelter here and «rescues» were fighting over her, when a friend inquired
about adopting the dog she asked
about the
adoption fee the rescue said it depended on certain things and that once the dog was evaluated they would come up with a fee, so my friend asked if they had set fees and they responded no, because some dogs deserve a higher fee.

adoption, especially of these ostracized breeds that are in great numbers in
shelters everywhere due to overpopulation and the bans on pit bulls (read more

adoption returns can typically tell staff a lot
about what needs to be addressed with a specific animal.

While in many
shelters Pit Bulls are over represented in comparison to other pure breeds this is not due to an over population issue but more due to bad internal
adoption policies within many humane organizations and of a lack of understanding
about the breed resulting in an unnatural deflatation in demand.

City and county
shelters might not be able to give you as much information
about the pet, but many
shelters provide
adoption packages to people who adopt a dog or cat, and these often include free or low - cost training.
This workshop featured four speakers: one
about increasing
adoptions in
shelters, one
about decreasing the number of puppies from puppy mills sold in pet stores, one from HSUS's Pets for Life program
about helping under served pet owners, and one from Coalition to Unchain Dogs, a group that builds fences for dogs who previously lived on a chain.
I have previously written

shelters that are ready to give it a try.
Many
shelters conduct behavioral assessments before placing pets up for
adoption, so adopters can get a very good idea
about who their new furry friend is.
