about the popularization of back - fence talk and the search for a reason why one of the world's most compelling pastimes is so pleasurable, it's also

book is MOST LIKELY to fit his data calculations,
because it's been out for a long time; it's self - published and has been out long enough that there are essentially zero print sales; I haven't been trying to promote it much, mostly
because I don't control the first two
books in the series, and so there are very few big jumps; and I had a
new release
about two months ago, so the
book in January is at
about the «average» rank in its release - to - release lifecycle.
Some authors send out a press release
about their
book because they've been told that's standard procedure; others run search ads just
because they're all the
newest rage.
I've found some gems in the free stacks... a lot of times I'll see a
book offered for free
because the author's like... 10th
book is
about to release, so they'll put their first release on sale to draw
new readers in... I'm a total sucker then,
because then I'll buy that author's entire back log.
It was named a
New York Times Notable
Book, and is
about the Yooks and Zooks, who do not get along
because one group...
Another problem to think
about is that you may lose all your reader reviews,
because retailers may see it as a
new book.
The Internet is starting to fill the gap left by the current crisis of the traditional media,
because it provides a
new alternative source of information
about books, and sometimes it helps to circulate literary texts or comments
about the
books that people have read.
Even so, I frequently ran out of
books to read and estimate that
about a third of my reading time was spent re-reading
books I already owned
because it wasn't convenient to go out and shop for
new books.
They want authors to write in a certain genre, for a specific market,
because that's what's «selling» this month, e.g. shiny vampires; never mind that by the time the
book is actually published (oh,
about 12 - 18 months after the deal is signed), the
new flavour of the month will be glowing werewolves.
As a
book publicist always looking for
new angles to promote my client's
books, I could not wait to read the next page
because there was so much good information
about online
book marketing on every single page.
Even just a 100 - person list matters
because you can use it as a mini-focus group, testing
book covers and plot ideas, and you can easily alert your fans
about new releases.
I hate to tell you this
because of the myth you are sort of asking
about, but in the 106 traditionally published
books I did (my last count, I keep finding more), at least five I know of had NO ONE in
New York even read it.
Traditional publishers complain
about this, but honestly don't care much
because they are moving from a nasty returns system in paper
books that allowed a 4 % profit to a
new system that gives them upwards of 40 % profit margins in electronic sales.
