Absent through much of the film is the seductively beautiful world
imaged in drug - cartel films like Blow or Scarface although some of the same dangers that lurk in those films are
present here, too, including pessimism and potential exhaustion, but this is tempered by a tense rhythm and a potentially explosive payoff.
