Using the RED Epic, cinematographer Bradford Young employs a scope ratio format, very little depth
of field, and (I'm pretty sure) a diopter to insure that large portions
of the image are almost always out
of focus, to the
point that they register as near
abstract soft swirls
of color.
That might sound a bit
abstract but think
of it this way... in most first person shooters you move using the keyboard and have a singular
point of «
focus» or targeting which is defined by mouse movement.
This exhibition
focuses on her early
abstract metal sculptures and paintings as a starting
point for future examination
of a long and continuously inventive career.

The featured artists in the exhibition all explore the strategies
of breaking up
of the picture plane,
focusing mostly on the
point of the slip between the figuration and abstraction, placing the figurative compositions in an
abstract context.
Through a range
of works on paper, models and sculptures rendered in a diverse range
of materials, the exhibition plots how Clark worked her way along a fascinating trajectory, from the rationalistic art
of geometric painting to a practice
focussed on the
abstract interactive object,
pointing finally towards a conception
of art as immersive, subjective experience that animated the latter half
of her career.
