Charters are tuition - free
public schools open to all, independent
of the traditional
public school systems, and free to choose their own educational programs while being held
accountable for improved student performance.
Beyond that, the Board seeks $ 960,000 in new ongoing funding to hold itself and the Utah State Office
of Education more fiscally
accountable and shore up data security in the state's
public school system.
They argue that the tax - credit programs draw needed funds out
of the
public school system, redirecting money to private
schools that aren't
accountable for student performance.
