with even sort of the resume Jehovah has been said to have, ie omniscient, omnipotent and omnibenevolent, and if this god somehow cranked out a human son, that son wouldn't
act like the drunken alpha
ape described in Revelations.

apes the conventions and tropes that one has come to expect
with such a tale (ie one doesn't entirely realize that they're watching an origin story until everything's been said and done).
Oldman just
acts confused, like he didn't realize until too late that he was co-starring
with a bunch of mo - cap
apes.
Besides, it takes some serious
acting chops to make out
with a fake
ape, as Heston pulls off almost effortlessly.
At times the mixing and clashing works, as in the first
act, where Spielberg
apes Kubrick
with alarming accuracy in the chilly, clinical tone and sterile environments; and it's hard to imagine the famously cynical Kubrick being able to pull off the wallop that a proven button - pusher like Spielberg brings to the aforementioned David / Monica scene.
It took a premise that could very easily go in the wrong direction (see Tim Burton's 2001 attempt) and anchored it
with a very human story that just happened to be
acted out by
apes.

acting honors went to Andy Serkis, who donned a performance - capture suit to portray the
ape uprising leader Caesar in «War for the Planet of the
Apes,» and Sally Hawkins, who portrayed a mute cleaning woman who falls in love
with a sea monster in Guillermo Del Toro's «The Shape of Water.»
