But if
this active magnetic region is long - lasting and representative of its global magnetic field, LSR J1835 +3259 is way more «star - like» than we give brown dwarfs credit for.

This large solar flare, produced by an
active region of the sun (AR9077), triggered
magnetic storms and knocked out satellites when it created a solar storm on July 14, 2000.
Images of the sun in the far ultraviolet and in X-rays (acquired most recently by the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory spacecraft, the Yohkoh satellite, and the NIXT rockets) show that the heating of the corona is localized in solar
active regions, which indicates the important role played by the
magnetic field.
The day of the failed eruption, scientists pointed the VAULT2.0 sounding rocket — a sub-orbital rocket that flies for some 20 minutes, collecting data from above Earth's atmosphere for about five of those minutes — at an area of intense, complex
magnetic activity on the Sun, called an
active region.
Active regions on the solar surface, often the sources of solar flares, may form in areas where flows converge, causing
magnetic fields to become concentrated.
Evolution of the
magnetic field in two simulations of the formation of
active solar
regions.
Fine details of a
magnetic flux rope captured by the New Solar Telescope at Big Bear Solar Observatory for Solar
Active Region 11817 on 2013 August 11.
After accounting for the deflection of the cosmic rays by the Milky Way's
magnetic field, the team found that the particles are travelling about 326 million light years from a
region of extragalactic space containing several potential sources, such as
active galactic nuclei and starburst galaxies.
Around
active regions of the star's atmosphere,
magnetic fields become twisted and distorted.
The top candidates, the astronomers suggested, are a neutron star, possibly a highly -
magnetic magnetar, surrounded by either material ejected by a supernova explosion or material ejected by a resulting pulsar, or an
active nucleus in the galaxy, with radio emission coming from jets of material emitted from the
region surrounding a supermassive black hole.
Based on these observations and experiments, Harker and Pevtsov conclude that the observed
magnetic transient is not an artifact created by the SDO / HMI observation process, but instead represents a real change in the vector
magnetic field; since the
active region was located so close to the solar limb, this suggests that the transient manifested in the horizontal component of the
magnetic field (relative to the solar surface).
Although it is well established that the Sun's
magnetic field is responsible for the supply of energy to the atmosphere, exactly how this
magnetic energy is converted into thermal energy is still not understood in detail, as models struggle to simultaneously encompass the very disparate temporal and spatial scales on which the heating has to occur, in different structures, with a wide variety of characteristics (e.g. open versus closed structures, short quiet - sun loops versus hot
active -
region loops and large - scale interconnecting loops).
While the bright
active regions have long been known to be sources of heating, the diffuse heating appears to be associated with the ubiquitous
magnetic carpet.
This view of the sun taken by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory shows the
active sunspot
region 1429 as it appeared at 11:30 p.m. ET on March 5, 2012 to the spacecraft's Helioseismic and
Magnetic Imager.
Loops of plasma are held in place by the sun's strong
magnetic fields, concentrated in
active regions that are visible to the naked eye as sunspots.
After its birth some 4.6 billion years ago, the Sun had an extremely
active magnetic field during its infancy, with gigantic dark star - or Sun - spots that sometimes covered its polar
regions.
The high
magnetic fields in the sunspot - producing
active regions also give rise to explosions known as solar flares.
Magnetic Island is ideal for leisurely relaxation or more
active pursuits, the easy accesibility and
region's fantastic weather makes this the ideal destination to explore all year round.
The lone
active region visible on the sun put on a fine display with its tangled
magnetic field lines swaying and twisting above it (Apr.24 - 26, 2018) when viewed in a wavelength of extreme ultraviolet light.
