To mark the occasion, and to acknowledge that more than half
of 2013 is behind us, I've compiled a list
of the finest film
performances delivered by
actors this
year, at least until this point.

Understandably In the Heat
of the Night cleaned up at that
year's Oscars, with standout

Again, it's a very different kind
of performance from the
actor, but easily his most memorable in
years.
«Nebraska» has already gained acclaim on the festival circuit, particularly for Dern's lead
performance (which won Best
Actor at Cannes earlier this
year), but there's nothing really special about any
of the acting here.
