Altogether the results of this thesis contribute to a better understanding of
bivalve adaptation potential to global changes and provide critical information for future work (e.g. investigation of allelespecific associated tolerance to changes in environmental parameters).
This suggests that these mussels are well adapted to their local environment characterized by considerable fluctuations in seawater pH. Additionally, this result allowed selecting an appropriate pH level (pHT ~ 7.5, beyond the present range of natural variability), representing a realistic OA scenario for the investigated population and driving enough biological response to further
investigate adaptation potential.
Books at Berlinale each year tempts film producers with 12 books carefully curated for their
film adaptation potential — as the demand for screen rights soars in the age of Netflix, Amazon Studios, HBO, and others.
A growing literature considers response strategies that aim at preventing damage to particular key elements and processes in geophysical, biological and socio - economic systems that are sensitive to climate change and have
limited adaptation potential; policy - makers may want to consider insights from the literature reviewed here in helping them to design policies to prevent DAI.
The main challenges to dealing appropriately with the climate change mitigation and
adaptation potential of organic agriculture, and agriculture in general, stem from
In this thesis, responses to changes in seawater acidity in commercially important bivalve species were investigated with the aim of understanding
their adaptation potential to OA.
It outlines the mitiga - tion and
adaptation potential of organic agriculture and addresses main opportunities, challenges, insti - tutional and policy aspects, thus placing this dis - cussion in a broader context, which also addresses consumer aspects and policies.
For biological and geophysical systems,
the adaptation potential is much lower.
Adaptation potential (Hughes et al., 2003) by reef organisms requires further experimental and applied study (Coles and Brown, 2003; Hughes et al., 2003).
