Today Apple released the latest update to iOS, version 11.3, which

battery health settings, along with four new Animoji, ARKit 1.5, a new Music Videos section in Apple Music, and more.

It's possible that a very old iPad with very poor
battery health could have trouble dealing with spikes but, since Apple hasn't
added them to the power management system, they'd shut down the same way iPhone 5s and previous iPhones would.

As far as features and improvements go, as mentioned in our original announcement post, iOS 11.3

The
Battery Health feature is just one fix for a lingering issue for Apple, and the company will likely be
adding information to the feature ahead of the public launch of iOS 11.3 sometime in the near future.
After the Batterygate backlash, Apple promised to
add a switch that lets users disable the CPU throttling if their
battery health is below a threshold.

However, after receiving a lot of criticism, Apple announced plans to
add new features in iOS 11.3, which will not only give iPhone users better visibility about the
battery health, but it would also allow users to disable the power management feature.
In a post on their website, Apple
added that «Early in 2018, we will issue an iOS software update with new features that give users more visibility into the
health of their iPhone's
battery, so they can see for themselves if its condition is affecting performance.»

As MacRumors noted earlier in 2017, Apple has filed patents for modular bands that could
add additional functionality to the watch, including additional
battery life, haptics,
health sensors, and more, though it's hard to bet on when (if ever) a patented product will see the light of day.
Apple will also be
adding in greater visibility into
battery health.
