I have made this using Bittersweet chocolate, semi sweet, and milk chocolate I love the bitter sweet but the semi sweet
I added instant espresso powder to and it was so yummy.

Additionally, you will
add in a tablespoon and a half of
instant espresso powder.
With machine off,
add 1 1/4 cup of sifted
powdered sugar, the vanilla, butter, 2 teaspoons of
instant espresso powder, and a pinch of salt.
Since I am a coffee fiend, I decided to
add a tablespoon or so of
instant espresso powder to the dry ingredients.
Take off heat and
add the finely - chopped chocolate, cocoa
powder,
instant espresso powder, vanilla extract and salt.
This is a classic and versatile dessert with endless flavor variations; coffee creme brulee (
add 1 1/2 tablespoons of
instant espresso powder into the hot cream), lemon (
add a few tablespoons of freshly grated lemon peel), and chocolate (melt 6 ounces of chocolate with the cream).
I have also
added a little
instant espresso powder (or
instant coffee
powder) as I find it highlights and
adds depth to the chocolate flavor.
The key is using high quality chocolate for the unsweetened and cocoa
powder (I used Valrhona) and I also
added just a little bit of
instant espresso powder to the melted chocolate mixture to bring out the flavors.
The buttercream frosting too, turned out well and a very good consistency, though a bit sweet (with 8 cups of confectioners sugar...) I
added (at my sister's suggestion) a packet of the Starbuck's decaf italian roast
instant coffee, which is what we
added to the cake batter in lieu of
espresso powder.
Make sure to use
instant espresso powder (
instant coffee would work in a pinch) to
add the coffee flavor to this.
I used agave for sweetener and also
added vanilla,
instant espresso powder (dissolved in water with baking soda, pinch of salt and 1/4 mashed banana (because I wanted them a little sweeter.
