The U.S. Department of Education has announced
additional federal aid for schools and students impacted by recent natural disasters.
The CEP found, «The fiscal crisis in most states, coupled with the prospect of
limited additional federal aid, could threaten the successful implementation of this very ambitious law.»
(Calif.) The first steps in qualifying a new group of California's lowest performing schools for
additional federal aid won passage last week from the state board of education.
Governor Andrew Cuomo, during his successful re-election campaign, sidestepped questions about the final toll by saying it was impossible to calculate the toll because the bridge's final costs — which may be defrayed
by additional federal aid — are not yet known.
But the difference, about $ 2.3 billion a year, would have to be picked up by the state without
any additional federal aid.
