Ofqual has also ensured that students taking legacy GCSEs will have the chance to resit English, English language, mathematics and in GCSE science and
additional science qualifications that exam boards currently offer.
It also said it will require a resit opportunity in all GCSE sciences and
additional science qualifications, but that resit opportunities in any other subject would not be required and would be left to the discretion of the exam boards.
As well as English and maths, it will measure how well pupils perform in at least three subjects from the English Baccalaureate —
sciences, history, geography, languages — and Computer
Science, and in three
additional subjects, whether those are arts subjects, academic subjects or high quality vocational
qualifications.
