Adoptable animals will stay
in our
care for as long as it takes to get them adopted or placed
in a more suitable rescue or
foster situation.
Although BHA does not have the authority to act
in a law enforcement or
animal control capacity we will continue to shelter unclaimed,
adoptable animals through BHA's
foster care program until a new home may be found.
Due to the particular needs of these dogs, most of our
adoptable animals are now housed and
cared for by our trained volunteers
in a network of
foster homes.
For example, solicitation of donations to reduce the number of dogs
in shelters must contain information about the programs that will be conducted to reach the goal, i.e., funding low - cost spay and neuter clinics; providing
animal welfare education to the community; establishing a
foster care program or an obedience program to make dogs more
adoptable; buying a van to serve as a mobile adoption center, etc..
