Our adoption contract requires
adopters to return the

to keep the

dog with AKC papers becomes the property of a shelter or rescue, the papers may not be given

dog but instead should be marked VOID and

It's harder
to adopt out older
dogs, they frequently get depressed and stressed out in the kennel so they don't present well
to potential
adopters and then they end up on the «kill list», older
dogs often develop seperation anxiety or other bad habits and get
returned.
We know how special all of our
adopters are and when they
return to adopt a second or third
dog, it's a happy day for one more lucky pooch.
Doing so is deceiving
to adopters, and may be the reason for an adoption
return in the future when the
adopter is suddenly made aware by his or her veterinarian, local Animal Control, insurance carrier, or landlord that the
dog is a pit bull.
By taking time
to do it right, you will ensure that the match is a good one for both the
dog and the
adopter and also avoid an unsuccessful placement and a possible
return adoption.
I have seen fosters and
adopters want
to return dogs because of behavioral issues, and then the blame placed on them because they are not working with the
dog, and them being stuck because there was no where else for the
dog to go.

dogs and cats in shelters do not come from responsible breeders — people who do the exact same thing with the
dogs you foster and adopt out: screen applicants for the pups, have contracts requiring the pup be spayed / neutered if it is not already when it leaves for its new home, require that the
dog be
returned to them if at any point, for any reason, the buyer /
adopter can not keep it.
