We select
dogs that are adoptable, we quarantine them at our vet in Baja, monitor them, vaccinate them and then transport them to the US straight
into volunteers homes for fostering until they can be
adopted out.
Many rescue
dogs, especially black ones like Zoey, are one of the last types of
dogs to be
adopted into a forever home.
There is also the fact that
adopting a pet is a long - term commitment —
dogs and cats can live well
into their teens!
The goal is to ensure that every
dog we are fortunate to assist is happy, healthy and ready to be
adopted into their Forever Home to experience a life of love and kindness.

into New York City's pet adoption capital as the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals, in partnership with the Petco Foundation, hosted Adoptapalooza, where animal lovers had the opportunity to
adopt lovable cats,
dogs, and rabbits.
I have had two husky's, one died last christmas, and she was probably the best
dog anyone could ever ask for, she was very much a guard
dog but only when other
dogs came
into the yard, she was a very good listener when she was on the leash, and me and my parents just
adopted an 8 week old puppy cute as can be, her and her brother and sisters where left for death on the side of the highway, and a girl and her husband took all 7 of them in and cared and loved them for 6 weeks, they really are miracle puppies, she is very fast and hyper puppies with losts of energy she gets along with other
dogs very well.
We rescue a lot of
dogs from this shelter because they have no chance of being
adopted before they are either euthanized or become sick from being exposed to disease (as they are not vaccinated there when they first come
into the Perrera).
We do not want to
adopt a medical
dog out to someone without the adopter knowing full well what they are getting
into.
Therefore, all of our
dogs go
into foster homes before they are
adopted.
So, if you go
into a shelter to
adopt a
dog, and the kennel sign has a
dog labeled as a «Pit» or «Pit Mix», when it actually is a «Shepherd / Hound Mix» for example, more than likely you and many other potential adopters or rescuers will overlook this animal simply because someone at the shelter «guessed» that it might be a «Pit».
Once we take a
dog into our rescue, we do keep them until they are
adopted.
And eventually each
dog is
adopted into a special family they can call their own... forever.
(4) Except as otherwise provided in subsection (7), a contract entered
into pursuant to subsection (1) shall require the
adopting person to leave with the animal control shelter or animal protection shelter, or a designee of the animal control shelter or animal protection shelter, a good faith deposit of at least $ 25.00 that indicates the person's intention to have the
adopted dog, cat, or ferret altered within the time provided pursuant to subsection (2).
Most shelters will try to do some form of temperament testing before their
dogs are
adopted, but due to the high stress environment many
dogs will not exhibit their true nature until they settle
into a new home.
This is an irresponsible scam to trick people
into adopting dogs they don't want (pit bulls), and is another way that shelters are actively harming animals with their outrageous policies.
Irregardless of the future consequences, the
dog should be taken
into the shelter, cared for, and unless it displayed a vicious temperament while in the shelter, it should be spayed or neutered, and then allowed to be
adopted.
• Fosters» input
into adoptive homes is welcome and necessary as the
dog / pup is in YOUR home, but the ultimate decision about what family will
adopt a
dog / pup is the sole right of the rescue.
I don't usually go
into places that sell
dogs, and would never buy one when so many need to be
adopted from shelters, but this interesting little
dog looked like it would make a great companion for my crazy ACD cross.
(8) A contract entered
into pursuant to subsection (1) shall include a statement that if the terms of the contract are breached because a person
adopting a
dog, cat, or ferret fails to have the animal altered as required in the contract, then the person agrees to pay liquidated damages of the greater of $ 100.00 or actual reasonable costs incurred by the animal control shelter or animal protection shelter to enforce the contract.
Adopting a new pet
into your home is a serious commitment - we want to ensure the
dog or cat you
adopt will be a good fit within your home environment.
If you decide to
adopt or purchase a small breed, make sure the
dog of your choosing will fit
into your lifestyle first.
