no afterlife for broken down computer parts comment, how does he explain what people see when they have a near death experience?
That I will «never be reunited with him» in
an afterlife makes me appreciate my time with him much more precious.

People think that they can steal, cheat, murder, and then while in jail they will be saved and have

Maybe what he or she is saying is that it is fine to have your belief in
an afterlife, but that does not allow you to try and dictate to everyone else how they should go about their business.
I, however, choose to believe in

But why care about life being meaningful if you believe there is

The only people who really believe in

If their hearts were heavy with guilt and sin then the scale would tip and their being would be destroyed, but if their heart was innocent and light then the scale would not tip and they would go onto
the afterlife.
The belief basically goes as there is a ritual in
the afterlife where the deceased would have their hearts weighed on a scale against a feather.
This could be a referance to that belief and God could be simply saying «I know all and therefore I know that Pharaoh will not let my people go unless I do these things, but because he is against me I will (in a sense) harden his heart on my scale and he will not be in
my afterlife.
So, they'd rather believe in
an afterlife where they get to see all their loved ones while spending an eternity worshiping their deity of choice.
There is no afterwards,

The only problem is that there is no objective reason whatsoever to believe any of the stuff about salvation or
