Just weeks after Jennifer Lawrence made headlines for speaking out
against the gender pay gap in Hollywood, a new study confirms that Hollywood has a big problem when it comes to gender inequality.

In a shot across the bows for a number of companies, LGIM said it would vote
against British companies where women did not represent at least a quarter of the board, and wanted a full breakdown of any
gender pay gap and plans to close it.

Meanwhile Tory MEPs voted
against a report on
paid paternity leave, reducing the

against women, while UKIP MEPs opposed investigating tax evasion and avoidance, capping credit card charges and labelling processed meat with its country of origin.
The announcement comes as actresses wore black to the Golden Globes this month, an unofficial dress code to publicize Time's Up, a new organization campaigning
against sexual harassment, workplace discrimination and the
gender pay gap.
However, if a company has a large
gender pay gap then there is no doubt that this will be used by those women who believe they have been discriminated
against in the workplace — for instance in relation to promotion.
The
gender pay gap is now at a record low of 18.1 per cent and the online tool will show the
gender pay gap by profession, so that the public can see how their job measures up
against the national average.
The technical legal arguments may be impeccable but for many the decision will offend
against common sense and be detrimental in freeing women of the «motherhood penalty» exemplified in the
gender pay gaps which large employers were this month obliged to publish.
The upcoming draft
Gender Pay Gap Information Regulations 2016 is aiming to encourage employers to take action
against unequal treatment and comply with its requirements.
