Since it is 2 years later that I found this, it is probably too late for you; however, for anyone who wants a smoother finish: dip your brush in water (I used an old plastic bowl), drag the brush
against the side of the bowl to remove some, then dip the brush into the paint.
Tap the lollipop stick gently
against the side of the bowl to remove any excess candy melt, then place cake pop onto parchment paper to dry, so the lollipop stick is upright.
To make a cupcake, I scoop 1/4 cup of batter, tap
against the side of the bowl to get rid excess batter on the side, and pour in the batter.
You should be able to hold your hand
against the side of the bowl without it being uncomfortably warm.
