The Legal Ombudsman works to achieve informal resolution of complaints by facilitating a mutually
agreeable solution between the parties, but also can make formal directions against lawyers where agreement can not be reached.
According to the Code of Virginia, which contains the State of Virginia Statutory laws, «mediation means a process in which a mediator facilitates communication
between the parties and, without deciding the issues or imposing a
solution on the parties, enables them to understand and to reach a mutually
agreeable resolution to their dispute.»
