Nerve cells in the brain of a tiny jumping spider can pick up
airborne sounds from at least three meters (almost 10 feet) away, reports Ronald Hoy.
The behavior, along with brain recordings, reveal that the spiders are sensitive to
airborne sounds from meters (yards) away.

sound dampening properties to reduce disturbance
from airborne noises.
They used
airborne radar
soundings and satellite data to show that beneath the glacial ice were valleys so deeply incised that some of them were hundreds of metres below sea level, at distances tens of kilometres
from the sea.
