This really reminds me of the Hilton
devaluation in February and stings even more than other
airlines including Delta and Air France / KLM who have announced major
award chart mileage
devaluations in the past several months.
The recent ease with which the
airline announced changes that makes it uncompetitive with its fellow legacy US
airlines shows that American isn't scared of being an outlier, and a management team that thinks like that is more than capable of yet another
award chart devaluation.

While we're huge fans of the current American
Airlines award chart,
airline devaluations have proven to be an inevitable part of the mileage game.
Taking a page from United's
Award Chart Devaluation, AAdvantage
awards on American
Airlines flights will be cheaper than the above partner
awards, because let's be honest — who really wants to fly American
Airlines First Class, if they could fly in a Etihad First Class Apartment on the A380, Cathay Pacific First Class or JAL First Class instead?
For redeeming Etihad miles on American
Airlines flights, the Etihad's
award chart is nearly identical to the old American
Airlines award chart before the
devaluation that just happened last week, at least for now.
