The game basically makes you appreciate and utilize
the alchemy system for usable items a lot more than most of the previous games.

Thankfully the game has some really great characters and a fun revamped
alchemy system which helps to make up
for this.
Between the game's job / class
system,
alchemy recipes, treasure map dungeons, and many quests (a good portion downloadable), it's not unusual
for players to sink 200 + hours when delving into the RPG's post-game content.
The all important
alchemy system has been tweaked and is simple, but with plenty of depth
for those that are willing to experiment with it.
With that in mind, and with fantastic
alchemy and combat
systems, Atelier Sophie is an enjoyable game that I didn't mind playing
for forty or so hours.
A traditional

for the crafting of accessories, while everybody's favorite helmeted blacksmith is on hand to sell increasingly powerful weapons.
