When an Air Force Jet crash lands in the desert, the crew must battle a mysterious
alien creature if they're going to make it out alive.
Once there, they must deal with the planet's evolved animal species and
an alien creature if they wish to escape the movie planet.

While the first film focused on creating an atmosphere of pure tension, this sequel is much more action - oriented, even
if its first hour is actually very slow - and instead of one
alien, Cameron has now a horde of goo - spewing, acid - blood
creatures to scare the audience to death.
The concept of energy - based
aliens in Darkest Hour is intriguing enough,
if only because of all the questions it raises about how these
creatures» abilities work (ex: Are there only certain forms of kinetic energy they can absorb?).
As filmmakers, critics and the general public have pointed out time and time again, Ridley Scott's
Alien worked so well because we rarely,
if ever, saw the entire
creature.
Another questionable item concerns how humans were able to deduce the
creatures» limitations prior to their rampant depletion (at least
if tabloid fodder is any indication)... so the film's resolution feels a bit like M. Night Shyamalan's Signs (2002) and those hydrophobic
aliens trying to colonize a planet mostly made of water (and speaking of printing techniques, how Evelyn has a calendar to mark her due date well over a year into isolation also seems suspect).
To cope with these circumstances, Danny forges a reality of his own, which includes the sinister «Three Men in Black», mysterious lake
creatures with insect - like carapaces, a beautiful young seductress and thief with whom Danny falls in love, and an
alien / human love child who -
if only Danny can keep her alive - will redeem the planet.
At least that's what I'd like to read
if I had more time to read (My all - time favorite series, aside maybe from Douglas Adams» Hitchhiker series, is John Christopher's YA Tripod Trilogy in which young adults save the world from
alien tripod lizard
creatures after their parents screwed everything up by watching too much television).
If it finds you running or trying to fight the
alien creatures, best believe that any offensive will be futile because the Xeno can climb through vents run on roofs and even stand on its back legs to attack.
Clamber up walls & glide through the air on the back of a camouflaging chameleon - like «Rock Drake», keep the dark at bay with one of four friendly «Lantern Pets», or grab and toss multiple
creatures simultaneously with a massive «Cave Crustacean», or —
if you are brave enough — allow the horrific «Reaper Queen» to impregnate you, and spawn a vicious male Reaper
alien lifeform you can tame and control.
